The Great Outdoors

Now that the weather is nice and sunny and warm (at least for Alaskan standards), we are trying to get out and enjoy the great outdoors before the snow starts to fly again. Ugh-I hate even thinking about it-it was a LONG winter...

Anyway, Jessica and I are out of school until mid-August and the first thing Jessica wanted to do was to go camping at Nancy Lake in Willow, AK. We went over Memorial Day weekend. It rained.

Jessica, Connor, and Jessica's friend Kathryn prepare our dinner the first night we were there.

Casa Del Frick. Notice the lovely blue tarp over our tent. This is because it was raining. A lot. And our brand new tent's rain fly leaked.

Did I mention it was raining? Here Keirin still enjoyed himself despite the wet conditions.

After we returned from our camping trip, the sun came out and a few days later, we decided to go for a bike ride on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. We rode all the way from Westchester Lagoon to Earthquake part down by the airport. It was probably about 2 miles one way. Of course, it feels longer, when you are on a tandem bike with a 4 1/2 year who won't peddle... Still- a very fun trip in the sun.

Keirin was so excited for the bike ride, he put his own helmet on all by himself.

Mommy and Connor prepare Connor's sweet ride for the trip.

Summer Time Fun!

The Winter's snow is FINALLY gone from our backyard and most areas around Anchorage. There are also actual, real live leafs that are starting to sprout on the trees. I guess technically the title of this post should be "Spring Time Fun," but the seasons (except Winter, of course) are so short here that we go from winter right to summer with a brief stop at Break Up.

Anyway, I wanted to send out a few pictures of the boys enjoying the great outdoors on their swing/sled set. I tried posting a video of this scene, but I am not sure if it'll come through or not. It seems to be taking an awful long time to load. Anyway, as you can see, both boys inherited their mother's love of being outside.

Finally, I meant to post this picture with my New York posts, but I forgot. This is the Peace Garden (AKA Strawberry Fields) in Central Park. It was so nice and quiet there, even in the middle of one of the world's largest cities. There was a nice feeling there, and you can almost believe that everything in the world will turn out alright...

Lights, Camera, Action!

OK, I am trying something new. Blogspot now (allegedly) allows us to post video. So, I grabbed a sample video of Connor and Kerin and I am attempting to post it. Please let me know how it works on your end. If everything is great, you can expect more video chronicles of the adventures of the Frick Jrs!

UPDATE: OK-the video is not loading...I will stay on this and hopefully one day successfully post video...

Like The Wiggles Say, "Hats Are Really Groovy"

Things have been going well for the Frick Jrs lately. I was very sick with some sickness called giardia, which I had never really heard of before and I am not sure where I picked it up. Luckily, neither kid or the wife seemed to pick it up and get sick also. I am feeling much better now and I am actually able to eat! Of course, I am still eating pretty bland stuff as my stomach is still recovering.

This is a picture of a giardia bug that I found on the internet. Yuck! How can something so small cause so much trouble. Little jerk!!

Jessica and I are excited that the school year is almost over. The last day of school for teachers will be on May 23rd, which is circled in our calendars. I am still looking for the break that sweep me away from the classroom and into the principal's office. There are many rumors floating around out there and I will let you know if I will be making any changes in my career. On the other hand, Jessica is moving on up! She is leaving Ravenwood Elementary's Special Education program to take over her very own 4th grade classroom at Fire Lake Elementary, which is even a little closer to home. Jessica is very excited about the new opportunity and challenge, although she is sad to be leaving her friends and students at Ravenwood.

Something most, if not all, Frick Jrs are excited about is that the Pittsburgh Penguins are on the cusp of their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance since they won it back to back in 1991 and 1992. They lead the Philadelphia Flyers 3 games to 0. If they win tonight, they will be in the Finals against either the Detroit Red Wings (most likely) or the Dallas Stars (possible, but I doubt they'll win 3 in a row against the Wings). GO PENS!!

Finally, I am legally obligated to post cute pictures of the kids. One night recently, they were trying on hats that Kierin had in his toy bench. What will their future careers be? Firefighter, construction worker, or Santa Claus? Either way, they are cute!

Catching Up With the Fricks..

Well, its been awhile since I updated this blog, but I wanted to let everyone know what's been going on up here in the Great White North. First of all, Kierin, Connor and Jessica went to the Baby Fair in Anchorage where Kierin had the finishing touches put on to his cowboy outfit. He looks like a rootin' tootin' little cattle russler.

Here Connor and his good friend Nudge enjoy a delicious snack while Mommy makes dinner for everyone.

Finally, here are a couple of pictures of our backyard on APRIL 26th! Thats right, it SNOWED about 22 inches on the 25th of April. Yes, we live in Alaska, but holy cow, can you believe it?! Luckily, the snow melted pretty quickly and it has been in the high 50's, low 60's in the last few days. I even saw some buds on the trees driving home today. Spring is (finally) here!
